尊敬的各位老师，亲爱的同学们：

说“加入和回归”，因为在座有一部分人是从外校或外单位第一次新来到我们中大地院，那还有一部分人是本科就已经在中大，或保研、或考研、或支教、或工作之后，又再一次回到我们中大地院。无论是新加入还是再次回归，研究生的学习和生活对每个人来说都是一个新的开始。从这个角度来说，我希望以经历了一年研究生生活的学生的身份与大家分享一点点心得与体会。

我们总是问这样一系列的问题：你为什么想上研究生院？这个问题会被外人甚至被自己问过很多遍，即便我们现在都已经是研究生了，但每每给出答案时，我们都可能会觉得有一些含糊不清或者不那么坚定。

最普遍的答案是找到一份好工作。接着就会问，读了研就好找工作了么？从实际情况看，形势依然十分严峻，不比本科毕业好多少。

接着又会问，那读研都不一定能保证找到好工作，那为啥还要读呢？也有一个笼统的回答，叫做可以拿个高文凭。再问一次，在这个注重能力、文凭贬值的年代，高文怎么能靠得住？

这时候，往往我们会安慰自己，想着走一步看一步，既然已经读研了，不可能就放弃不读了，等毕业了再说。就是这样一系列的问题，在每一个问题的结尾都会变成自我安慰，然后我不知道哪一天，这一系列的问题会再次出现。

我去年这个时候也曾被这串问题所困惑，走出这段迷茫期是需要自己花时间去思考去经历的。在这里，我只能说一些我已经意识到的结论性的事情。简单来说，就是：

研究生学习的目的应该是生活目的的一个子集。如果仅仅把读研究生的目的看作是为了找到一份好工作，那就太狭隘了。好工作只是能营造好生活的手段之一，而想要拥有好生活不单单只是拥有好的工作，而是要能实现自己的人生价值与目标。

如果从这个角度思考，无论是读研究生还是工作，都只是人生的一个阶段。不论你是先读研再工作还是先工作再读研，人生在于能力的不断积累，只要我们没有荒废时间，每天都在让自己进步，那就是在不断地向着人生的价值与目标前行。

所以，很明显，笼统地说，我们知道读研的目的应该是在以研究生命名的这样一个人生阶段中，继续累积、提升自己的能力。那么我们需要知道在研究生阶段我们应该提高哪些方面的能力？

我曾经从彭明辉的书中了解到，作为一个标准的研究生，我们应该具备“做研究与解决问题的能力”，更具体地说，只要把学术文献回顾与分析的工作做得完整、彻底，自然会培养出从事研究的五种核心能力：资料检索的能力、资料筛选的能力、期刊**的阅读能力，期刊**的分析能力，以及创新能力。事实上，对专利、技术文献和期刊的审查、分析、批评和创新，是我国许多领域最缺乏、最有用的能力之一；同时面对现如今各种产业的剧烈变动与新生，这种能力也是最有效的应对手段。

比如说，就在客村的国家海洋局南海分局，6月份的时候就想招一些实习生，与灾害学有关的，研究的是海洋灾害的经济损失风险评估。我们地理学院并没有灾害学这样一个专业，然而，可以想象这里要研究的内容所用到的理论与技术并没有超出我们所学或者可学习的能力范围之外。我们任何一个地理学院的研究生，如果擅长在短时间内完成最有效率的文献回顾与分析，在文献中找到足够的方法、技术和点子来解决这一问题，不管你是人文也好，gis也好，水系也好，就完全有能力去应聘这份实习，并且从中持续的吸收新知，更新自己的技能。

如上所述，这是一个标准的研究生，也是导师中最受欢迎的研究生之一。然而，每年毕业后，都有这样一群师兄师姐。他们从事与专业无关的工作，但他们的生活同样精彩。其实，这一点也很清楚，因为这种想象在本科毕业阶段大量存在。

读大学，最重要的是培养一种情操与为人处事的价值观念，这也是为什么我们要选择一所好的大学，就是因为它有浓厚的底蕴。在这里，我们可以体会，所谓“师者，传道授业解惑也”。现在流行一个词，叫吐槽。

我们常常吐槽有些普通的大学老师只做到了授业，而我们又何尝不是也仅仅把自己的目光放在了被授业上呢？

还有传道，是传受做人的道理；还有解惑，是解答人生的疑惑。作为研究生，如果读研只是为了找工作，然后买车买房娶妻生子，人这一辈子活着的意义就仅此而已么？

有些人特别擅长抽象思维，所以读研究生是正确的；有些人特别擅长组织、沟通和活泼。他们可能不擅长做研究，但他们选择了读研究生。但是这并不妨碍，我们在人生的阶段中去积累提升自己的能力，因为当你意识到你的优势特长更适合职场而不适合做学术的时候，这对于你自己来说本身就是自我认识的提高与进步，并没有什么可丢人的。自己去体会做人之道，自己去寻求疑惑的答案，因为不管怎样，我们还是要毕业的。

那些毕业之后从事其他行业的师兄师姐同样掌握着对知识的检索、筛选、阅读、分析以及创新的能力，并且也按照自己的特点去提升其他的能力。这样的读研生活也是有意义的。

地理学本来就是大杂烩，不像医科，读研的选择，要么从事医学科研，要么临床做医生，你从来不会听说那个中山医的研究生去了腾讯、华为，或者去了奥美公关、广汽集团，但是地理学院的研究生，除了可以做学术科研，做专业技能人才，也完全可以去应聘其他领域的公司。有人可能会说毕业生可以去这些地方，那他们为什么要去研究生院呢？一个大学毕业生在公司做事的时候，需要有人指导他，正规一点说，是帮他从事批判性的检验，帮他找出缺点和建议改进的可能性。

但是一个毕业的研究生，做事情时应该做到不需要有人指导，就可以分析自己做事方法的优缺点，并在不足处主动向上级或平行单位要求支援。如果作为一名研究生，我们并没有意识到自己比起本科生的优势所在的话，那么只能说我们并不是一名合格的研究生。

总之，读研只是人生数十年的短暂的一个阶段，没有必要患得患失，无论做学术，搞专业技能，跨专业领域，我们要做的宏观目标是为自己的人生添砖加瓦，生命是长期而持续的累积，我们要享受在地理学院在中山大学的每一天。

如果你只说你是水文学专业的，从来不听保继刚先生的讲座；如果你只是说你是地理学院的，而一再错过了文学、历史、哲学等老教授的精彩讲座；如果你只是说你是中大的学生，而不注意外国学校和我们之间的讨论和交流；如果你仅仅说你一心钻研学术，而从来没有为任何一场梁銶琚的表演而排队抢票……

当你研究生毕业的时候，你会说出怎样的遗憾呢？
